About Elliot S. Birnboim
Elliot S. Birnboim has been providing strategic family law advice for over 22 years. He has an established reputation for getting quick results in otherwise complex and protracted matters and taking difficult and unfair cases and getting them “back on track” to a fair and equitable resolution.
Drawing on his years of experience in sorting out complex family law disputes, Mr. Birnboim created MatrimonialHome.com to help raise awareness about the importance of early strategic advice – crucial to avoiding the mistakes that can often have a fundamentally impact on a spouses rights, leading to an expensive and protracted divorce proceeding.
Mr. Birnboim’s offices are on Bay Street in the heart of Toronto’s financial district. He advises family law and business clients throughout the Greater Toronto Area and his advice is also sought across Canada and internationally on a myriad of complex family law problems.
Several of Mr. Birnboim’s cases are land-mark family law and civil court decisions. His accomplishments include securing the highest award for interim spousal support in the Province of Manitoba, as well as a number of precedent setting cases as to what defines a legal “spouse”. His insights are frequently sought for radio and newspaper commentary. He is the editor of the Canada Law Books publication “Family Law Legislation of Ontario”.
Unlike many of his colleagues who approach family law from a “social work” perspective, Mr. Birnboim brings a “business” perspective to achieving successful outcomes. Mr. Birnboim also has an extensive business litigation practice, using his extensive corporate and business litigation perspective to the assist in navigating divorce – of particular importance where the income and assets of a family business are involved in a divorce. Mr. Birnboim is the co-author of “Annotated Corporate Law of Canada” and a founding partner in the firm Chitiz Pathak LLP, a boutique business law firm.
